We understand these past years have not been easy, economically, and want to help in our way by not increasing our rates this year only. To help us offset our costs we ask one thing of you (and this helps us, you, and our community…) REFER YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. We believe everyone can have improved quality of life with chiropractic care. We want to see your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and everyone you can send our way. You can help us by keeping us thriving and we can help you by giving you happier, healthier loved ones. The gift of chiropractic care is a gift of a lifetime of improved health and greater function. Thank you for your own commitment!
Condition of the Month:
Allergies Have you noticed a lot of people sneezing, sniffling and generally congested lately? It is that time of year so many people dread. Not because of the warm, beautiful days… but because there is definitely something in the air that irritates the air passages. It is various types of pollen, sometimes molds, dust, dander and grasses. It varies from year to year as to the timing, severity and length of the “attack”. This is because the arrival of the season caries from year to year as well as variances in the reproductive life of the plants, etc. So, what is there to do? Chiropractic helps the immune system strengthen to withstand these attacks. For some people the offending substance is neutralized by a stronger immune system. Sometimes it can at least lessen the severity. The amount of emotional or physical stress also determines how well we deal with the offender. Understand that our allergies are our immune systems overreacting to a normal substance. So, if you are suffering other health problems, have a personal life crisis or do not take care of your overall health, you may suffer more than normal or at another time in your life. Consistent chiropractic care can help you at this time of year, but you also need to make sure you get adequate rest, nutritional balance, water intake and exercise. We do have nutritional supplements that can aid you at this time of year that work well with your allergy symptoms. They work by supporting your immune system, instead of trying to trick it. Ask Dr. Baker or Dr. Borski about D-Hist for adults and kids! Vitamin D3 and sunshine Don’t be afraid to go out in the sun this summer. You may need to take some precautions to not burn. If you have burned easily in the past, take note. Too many bad burns in a lifetime can make you more susceptible to skin cancers and damage. But some sun exposure is good for you and necessary for your body to generate Vitamin D3. In our area, the midday is the best time to allow for limited exposure to make Vitamin D3. You can use light/white clothing to protect yourself from too much sun. Remember being on the water exposes you to reflected light and you will burn sooner. Hats can protect your face and shoulders. To find safe, effective sun products, Environmental Working Group is an independent company that tests/rates many products for safety. They also have an app for your phone so you can scan items in a store and often find out how safe it is to use/consume. Sometimes you will be surprised that a name brand may be safer than a “natural” branded product. For sunscreens, bug sprays, etc. go to:
We also carry Vitamin D3/K2 in many forms to supplement or if you can not safely expose yourself to much sunlight. In northern Wisconsin it is necessary to supplement in the winter. See you soon!
Recipe: Soba Noodle Salad with Spicy Almond Dressing by @katcancook INGREDIENTS
10 oz. soba noodles
1 large red bell pepper, sliced thin
4 cups green or purple cabbage, sliced thin
4 scallions, green and white parts sliced
2/3 cup roasted almonds, roughly chopped
Kosher salt
Spicy Almond Dressing
1/4 cup almond butter
5 tbsp water
1 tsp honey
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil, divided
5 tbsp soy sauce
1 lime, juiced
1 clove garlic, peeled and smashed
1/4 cup chili sauce, I like Sriracha
1/4 tsp Kosher salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Cook soba noodles according to package directions in salted water, usually about 5 minutes.
Drain and toss with 1 tbsp of the sesame oil to prevent them from sticking together while you prepare the dressing and assemble the salad.
For the dressing: combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
To assemble: In a large bowl, toss vegetables, half of the almonds, half of the scallions, and noodles with enough dressing to thoroughly coat it all.
Plate on a larger platter and scatter remaining scallions and almonds on top.
Serve room temperature or cold, it will keep for up to a week in the refrigerator.
