Condition of the Month: Arthritis Arthritis is a word that we hear more about nearly every day. It is a disorder that is very concerning for many people throughout the world. As chiropractors we treat many patients for arthritis and its disabling effects. What causes arthritis? The cause depends on the type of arthritis. Let’s focus on osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is caused by joint disfunction. It is NOT caused by old age. It develops in joints that are no longer articulating properly. If it was truly a dis-ease of “old age” you would get the same amount of arthritis in all your joints. Why do I say that? Aren’t all your joints the same age? That is good news for all our patients at Baker Borski Chiropractic. Corrective care-plans followed by consistent wellness adjustments can stop osteoarthritis in its tracks! That’s right! When normal joint function is restored osteoarthritis STOPS! At Baker Borski Chiropractic we are committed to you and your whole-body health. Together let us first start with you, our patients, in restoring your proper joint function and eliminating the progression of osteoarthritis. Please help Dr. Baker and Dr. Borski in helping stop the progression of osteoarthritis in your family, friends and co-workers. Ask the Doctors or staff how you can share the gift of proper joint functions with all of those you care about.
The importance of digestive enzymes for health and longevity Enzymes are catalysts for metabolic and biochemical reactions in your body. They are important for helping us break down our food so that the nutrients are made available and usable by our bodies. Increasing the amount of fresh, raw and fermented foods can aid this process. This has always been true but as we have turned more and more to processed foods, we have abandoned these principles. There are specific digestive enzymes for breaking down proteins, fats/lipids, starches/carbohydrates, fiber, sugars, and dairy. Once you are over age 30, your production of enzymes reduces by approximately 13% each decade. And your stomach produces less hydrochloric acid, which is activates the digestive enzymes. Heartburn and acid reflux medications interfere with this system and exacerbate/WORSEN the problem. New studies show these medications may also lead to osteoporosis. See where this has led us to now? We also have more gall bladder issues – where bile is stored for breaking down fats particularly. All of these problems have worsened over the decades; the medications don’t address the underlying issues. Some of the benefits of properly activated enzymes are better energy production by your cells, reducing inflammation, and slowing the aging process – conditions related to our condition of the month: ARTHRITIS! Also they help with nerve and hormone regulation, and even dissolving blood clots. Enzymes rely on vitamins, minerals and coenzymes to work efficiently. You can take the best vitamins in the world but if your enzymes are not working properly, you may be wasting them. Pancreatic enzymes are crucial for cancer treatment. Systemic enzymes such as serrapeptase can reduce inflammation; nattokinase can decrease blood clotting. These can be very helpful with surgical side effects. Mercola.com, Dec. 19, 2023 – Substack.com
Boosting enzymes naturally is done 4 ways:
Increase your intake of raw, living foods.
Fasting
Chewing your food thoroughly (slow down!)
Avoid chewing gum (fools your body into producing enzymes when it’s not mealtime).
Foods that may help: Sprouted seeds and legumes, papaya, raw meat/dairy, raw honey, bee pollen, coconut oil, and fermented fish products.
