Condition of the Month Irritable Bowel Syndrome Irritable bowel syndrome IBS or spastic colon is a common health condition that is estimated to affect close to 55 million Americans, mostly women. IBS is classified as a functional disease in which the bowel functions abnormally. It is characterized by chronic abdominal pain, bloating, gas, cramping, discomfort and irregular bowels.
A Chiropractic clinic’s approach to IBS does not involve prescribing drugs or medications. Rather, they approach IBS by using safe, proven and effective chiropractic care along with nutrition guidance.
As outlined above, the main symptoms of IBS are abdominal pain with either constipation or diarrhea. Many times, the constipation and diarrhea will alternate back and forth. Other common symptoms include bloating, gas and cramps.
Symptoms of IBS can range from mild to severe. Whatever the level, irritable bowel syndrome can greatly impact your lifestyle making it difficult to perform daily activities. This can lead to increased stress and anxiety magnifying the symptoms of IBS even more.
Irritable bowel syndrome is generally classified into one of the following categories: (1). IBS-C: Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. (2). IBS-D: Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (3). IBS-A: Irritable bowel syndrome with alternating constipation and diarrhea
Chiropractic health care focuses on the health of the body’s central nervous system. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to identify and treat problems with the nerves of the human body. When your central nervous system is healthy, all systems of the body are working properly, including your bowels and digestive system.
Like all organs and systems within the human body, your intestines are controlled by the brain via nerves. Signals go back and forth from the brain to the intestines which control how the intestines function. If there is interference in the nerve signals (known as a subluxation) between the brain and intestines, it can cause problems or irregularities with how the bowels function.
Chiropractic care removes subluxations which impact nerves and inhibit the body’s normal functions and ability to heal. When we identify where subluxations exist, we can remove the interference and restore normal functions.
Steps for IBS 1) Get regular chiropractic adjustments to help nervous system function!
2) Avoid inflammatory foods including sugar and sugary beverages and enriched grains such as pasta, bread and rice.
3) Rest and supplementation for healing such as SBI Protect from Orthomolecular! How to Save Your Life and Your Loved Ones When Hospitalized
Laura Bartlett and Greta Crawford have founded an organization to address treatments patients receive when hospitalized. The document they created is the Caregivers and Consent document for advance decisions in regard to care. This is different from the Advance Directive which only works when you become incapacitated. The Caregivers and Consent document is in effect immediately. It must be completed and notarized before you go in. You need 10 copies of the signed and notarized document. Give one to the attending physician and nurse once hospitalized. You can even send copies by professional courier or registered mail to the CEO’s of the local hospitals where you live to insure you get the care you want. You can download and print your own copies at ProtocolKills.com. We will also have a copy in our COVID resources file.
Supplement of the month: D Hist
D Hist from Orthomolecular Products is great assistance for common allergic symptoms. Many of our patients and staff use D Hist for common seasonal allergies all year around. D Hist has proven to be very effective in reducing the common symptoms such as runny/congested nose/sinuses, itchy eyes/skin and sneezing. The ingredients in D Hist include Vitamin C, Quercetin, Stinging Nettle, Bromelain, and N-Acetyl-Cysteine. These substances help reduce histamine and heightened inflammatory response to allergens of all kinds. They support the immune system which is overstimulated by the offending allergen(s). D Hist has no pesky side effects such as drowsiness, etc. We have children’s D Hist as well/chewable tablet and blister packs!
