Patient Orientation Class is held once a week at 6:00pm. It is a requirement for new patients, but all are always welcome to attend. See the front desk to sign up. This month class will be held Wednesday, September 13th and 27th and Monday, September 18th
Condition of the Month:Backpack Safety Parents remember that the weight limit of backpacks is 10 -15 % of a child’s weight. 45 lbs. child = < 6.75 lbs. max. weight! 60 lbs. child = < 9.0 lbs. max. weight! 72 lbs. child = < 10.8 lbs. max. weight! Think they are carrying more than this? You bet they are. When we allow them to carry packs heavier than this, we risk long term damage to our children’s spine, including degenerative changes occurring 10-20 years faster than the normal population. This is due to the compressive forces on the still growing pediatric skeleton including all important growth plates. If more of us start complaining when our children bring home packs full of heavy books, we may get a change in the way schools delegate study hall work and homework. These children should not be bringing packs home full of heavy textbooks. Backpack Tips:
Choose the correct backpack for your body size
Don’t overload your backpack
Lift using your legs when testing the weight of your backpack
Wear your backpack using both shoulder straps
Hey Mom and Dad… Each year kids are required to have a physical exam before entering the educations system, but what about their spinal health? Isn’t it important to check the most essential parts of their entire little bodies?! Call 715-675-4106 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Baker. Bring along your child’s backpack and have it checked for proper fit and weight limit for their body frame. At Baker Borski Chiropractic we want your children to be at their optimal level of health. A body free from subluxations can show higher levels of concentration, creativity, clearer thinking and better listening skills. With all this in mind, maybe report card day won’t be as stressful this year after all!
Recipe:Bone broths - Great for joint repair/recovery!
48 Hour Slow Cooker Bone Broth
2 to 3 pounds of grass fed beef bone marrow bones 3 large carrots 3-5 celery stalks Ginger: about the size of two fingers 1 tablespoon rosemary Sea salt and black pepper to taste Splash of apple cider vinegar 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic
Add ginger and garlic to a blender filled halfway with filtered water and blend on high for 20-30 seconds. Pour this mixture into a slow cooker and then continue to fill the slow cooker with filtered water about half way. Add a splash of apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s great!). Add bones, carrots, celery and seasonings. Fill the slow cooker with water until full. Simmon on low for 48 hours. After 48 - 60 hours, strain the liquid discarding all the solids and store the liquid in a glass mason jar in your refrigerator for up to a week.
Hints: After 24 hours, the broth will have evaporated down - refill with more filtered water. You can freeze broth cubes to extend the life. Your broth should be extremely fatty. Once cooled, you should notice a thick layer of fat on the top, which is a sign you made a quality broth. This fat is very nutrient dense and can be used in other cooking. The broth should be opaque, golden, and full of vitamins and minerals.
Chicken Stock (repair)
Bones from poultry, fish, beef, lamb, shellfish or whole chicken or whole carcass. You will need to remove any meat when cooked, about 1 hour. 8-10 cups of water 1-2 tbsp lemon juice or raw apple cider vinegar 1-2 tsp. Sea salt, Sage, rosemary, and thyme ½ tsp. Pepper 2 carrots, chopped 1 onion, chopped 2 stalks celery, chopped ½ cups fresh parsley chopped or 2 tbsp. dried parsley 1-2 bay leaves
Put all ingredients into a pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer, and allow to simmer on low OR put in a crockpot on low for several hours (4 - 24). Remove bones and skim off fat. Use it as stock for soup, drink as a warm beverage, or make gravy from fat. with water until full. Simmon on low for 48 hours. After 48 - 60 hours, strain the liquid discarding all the solids and store the liquid in a glass mason jar in your refrigerator for up to a week.
